Needlework and Zentangle

I have not posted an update for quite some time, but I have definitely been tangling.  Many of my Zentangle have been for needlework groups/guilds and have been lots of fun.  Last year I was asked to teach a one-day workshop for the upcoming Embroiderer's Guild seminar in Phoenix and it has attracted a lot of interest among needleworkers.  Below is a photo of my workshop proposal board on display at this year's seminar in Louisville, KY.  The left side shows Zentangle 101 examples, the AM class,  and the center and right side shows the Zentangle 102, the PM portion, with the addition of fabric and color.

Also, this past year, my daughter, McCall Miller, also a Certified Zentangle Teacher, has begun teaching Zentangle at our great local art supply store, Riley Street Art Supplies in Santa Rosa, CA.  She tries to schedule a class every month and offers Zentangle 101 as well Zentangle 102 where she includes an every-changing selection of different media......very fun.    Her email is mccallmillerdesigns@gmail.com.  Her classes are very popular and a great choice if you live in the Santa Rosa area.

If you or your group is interested in combining Zentangle with color and/or fabric, I am listing a schedule of my upcoming workshops (as of 12/15/13) for 2014 and 2015.   Please contact me if you would like further information.   Ii look forward to hearing from you!

TRYING NEW STRINGS AND TANGLES

Recently I have been so involved with my stitching projects I have had little time to create Zentangle tiles just for my own enjoyment.  My tiles are not as fancy as many beautiful ones I see, but I enjoy drawing them nonetheless.  Today's ( July 16, 2012) Zentangle blogpost from Rick and Maria  was certainly the boost that I needed.  See the link to the Blog Zentangle website under Zentangle Sites (at right below).
None of the tangles in the tiles below are too involved.  Several of them I had never drawn before (as is evident) but each finished tile is pleasing  to me.  I usually don't have a problem with deciding on tangle patterns to draw, but what type of string to use can cause me pause.

The string on the top one uses the basic "Z" string, while the two above were drawn  entirely curved with lines.
This one is just 4 curved lines, approximately equidistant.....with no border.   This was something I don't do ........very often.  Maybe it is because I generally stitch on needlepoint canvas?......on a grid?  Probably.  Well, I think I just don't want to many defined areas to be created by the strings on my tiles, as I like to "see" the tangles, and not have them too tiny.

Most of the tangles are original Zentangle Tangles.  A few were created by Suzanne McNeil and Sandy Steen Bartholmew via their wonderful books.

Just a reminder, if you are in the Santa Rosa, California area, my next Zentangle 101 workshop will be held on Saturday, July 28th from 10-12:30 pm.  PLEASE NOTE THE NEW DATE.

Enjoy your tangles,
Terry

Yesterday's Workshop

McCall and I had a fun day yesterday with eight  new Zentangle students.    The morning was spent introducing them to Zentangle and learning 10 new tangles.  Then in the afternoon McCall demonstrating creating tangles on dark backgrounds using gelly roll pens and pastels.  I will try to post some of their beautiful work.  I demonstrated using Inktense  pencils and water washes and also how to blend colored markers separately and then apple to a tile.  An example  of each are above and at right .  During a previous workshop we worked on fabric with fabric markers and an example of that technique is also shown below.

We hope to schedule another all day workshop in early December, so be sure to let me know if you are interested and which of the first two weekends in December might work best for you.

Happy Tangling,
Terry
